Name: Stuart Hitchcock

Age: 18

Main Event(s): Long Jump … and everything else in the decathlon!

Your Favourite PB: Long Jump 7.01m

Have you won any titles or been selected for county teams or major events?

I have won the Kent County Championship long and triple jump since I was an U15. I represented Great Britain twice as a youth U18 last season (2007) in the jumps international and the European Youth Olympic Festival in Serbia.

How did you get into the sport?

My PE teacher sent me to district sports as a 13 year old and then I got picked up by the club.

Who is your coach?

Trevor Bent

How often do you train?

It depends really but it is genaerally 5 days in the winter (3 track sessions and 2 gym)  In the summer usually twice at the track once in the gym and competing on weekends.

What is your favourite training session?

Technical Jumps sessions, or javelin for the decathlon.

What is your proudest moment or biggest achievement in the sport?

Getting selected for the European Youths last year.

What are your current aims and targets?

Sadly I injured on my right foot so am jumping off my left foot at the moment which is not great considering I’m right footed. I am therefore trying to build on my long jump off my left foot. My focus this year is on the decathlon at the Kent Combined events where I hope to perform well.

What are your long term aims and targets?

Keep enjoying the sport and progressing in all events I compete in!

Who is your athletics hero?

No question, Jonathan Edwards

What do you enjoy doing away from athletics?

Seeing my girlfriend and friends, playing a bit on the xbox 360.

What is your job or what are you studying?

I have just finished A levels and hope to do Sports Science and Maths at Loughborough next year.

Do any of your family compete in the sport?

No! Only my sister at school.

Who is your best friend in the sport?

Darren March
