Kent Masters and Clubman's Championships
Beckenham, 13th December
On a cold day M&M came away with a full set of medals in the M40 race over 10k. Team gold and individual silver an bronze respectively for messers Royden and Williams was a pleasing result. Alan Jones and Bob Fursey making up the winning team. Tom Collins was the only other M&M medallist as he bagged gold in the Kent clubman's race which was reduced to 5k because of the poor whether.
Gray in Half Marathon Debut Win
Natalie Gray made her debut over the half marathon distance on Sunday 12th October in the London Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon to raise funds for Unicef and was the first lady home finishing in 84:19 and in a very creditable 36th place overall out of 7666 finishers.

English Cross Country Association Relay Championships
Mansfield, 1 November 2008
The club's senior men's team took two teams to the national cross country championships on a cold and windy day. Both the A Team and the B Team improve don their 2007 positions of 31st and 63rd.

Great South Run
Portsmouth - 26th October
MIke Coleman continued to improve as he took another step towards his best form on the wet and windy south coast. His time of 49.51 saw him finish in 17th place. Adrian Lowther also finished the race (the day after his Kent League 4th place) in 29th position with a pb time of 54.28.
Stroud Half Marathon
Stroud - 26th October
Neil Renault continued his sparkling early season form by winning the Stroud Half Marathon in 65.24mins. His winning time was a personal best by one second and saw him break the tape over two minutes clear of his nearest rival in what was a high quality field.
Maidstone Half Marathon
Tom Collins led home the field for a very comfortable victory in his local race. His time of 73.43 was almost 4minutes quicker than his nearest rival's.
Ashford 10k
Mike Coleman set a blistering pace at the Ashford Givaudan 10k and was never troubled as he won in under 31mins. He also became Kent road 10km champion in the process.

1500m Handicap
Deangate
The traditional club 1500m Handicap was won easily by Ben Murphy u13 boy who had a 1min 30sec start on the scratch runner. He got to the front of the race early and was never caught when recording is fastest time at 1500m.

Berlin Marathon
28th September 2008
Allen Jones made up for the disappointment of being taken ill the week before he was due to run the London Marathon. He did this by running 2:42:03 in Berlin. Allen finished 227th in the race and was 37th M40.

Erith, 20/21 September
Athletes from across the full rnage of age groups contributed to a haul of 22 medals at the three championships taking place on the final weekend of summer competition.

The club's senior men entered two teams in the main race which is run over six legs of 4km. Youngsters Nathan Wilkins and Josh Elderfield made their debuts for the senior men's x-country team and acquitted themselves well, with Josh running the anchor leg in the A team. The team finished second behind a strong Tonbridge team. Elsehwere messers Royden, Lowther, Collins, Curran and Slade all ran two legs to ensure a hard day's training.

Kent Track Relay Championships
14 September
M&M teams came away with 10 medals from the end of season relay championships held at Eltham. Five gold and five silver made up the haul with the highlight perhaps the Under 17 men who scored a 1-2 in the 4x400m.

Bristol Half Marathon
14 September
Tom Collins and Adrian Lowther were both disappointed with their runs at the UK's second biggest half marathon, despite finishing in the top 25 out of 12,500 runners. Collins finished 22nd in 72:48mins and Lowther in 25th in 73:21mins.
Road Running Round Up - No. 1
September 2008
M&M’s Senior Men have been in action recently on the roads of Kent and Wales.
Neil Renault made his long awaited return to competition following surgery on his foot to bring to an end the problems that caused him to miss the end of last winter and all the summer season. With just 8 weeks training behind him he made an instant impact at the Caernarfon 10k by finishing 2nd in a blistering 31.17mins.

Adrian Lowther won his 3rd consecutive Kent road race at Port Lympe on Saturday 6th September. His time of 33.22mins in very blustery conditions meant he was not troubled by the field and sets him up nicely for an assault on his half marathon pb at Bristol on 14th September. Allen Jones also continued his Berlin Marathon (28th Sep) preparations by finishing third in 36.09mins. Allen Also finished first M40.

4 M&M senior men also turned out on the off road 5 circuit at Shorne Woods on Sunday 7th September. Bob Fursey was first M&M home in 4th place (and first M40). He was supported by Andrejs Safars(5th), Adrian Moody(17th) and Alun Rodgers(22nd).

Several M&M athletes were selcted to represent Kent at the inter counties match in Surrey. Their performances made a significant contribution to the overall Kent team.

VAA of England Inter Area Club Track and Field Match
10th August
Barry Royden represented the South of England Vets Team at the inter-area match in Hemel Hempstead. Royden clocke dhis fastest time of the season for 3000m, 8:58:9, to win his race. He managed this despite his calf going tight and having to run within himself for the last 600m.
England Athletics Championships
Birmigham 9th/10th August
M&M's James Alcock knew that he had to be at his best in the AAA’s long jump in Birmingham. As well as the athletes who competed in the English Schools, there were the top athletes from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Although disappointed at not winning a medal James was pleased that he broke the 6.80m mark, which sets a new club U17 record.

Ashford, 26/27 July 2008
Martin Brockman rose to the occasion on earning his first GB vest in his home county. He not only registered a pb but also topped 7000 points for the first time.
Dartford Half Marathon
20 July 2008
The club's strong showing in local road races continued on Sunday at the Dartford Half. Barry Royden was back where he is used to being, at the front of road races and leading the M&M charge. He pushed Blackheath's Pete Tucker until the 12th mile at which point Tucker's current marathon trianing showed as he moved away. Next home was Pat Curran in 5th and Colin Carpenter completed an M&M trio.

Cliffe Woods 10k
Sunday 13th July
Adrian Lowther won his first 10k road race with a solo performance at Cliffe Woods. M&M athletes were out in force with Mark Limbourne continuing something of a comeback by finishing 5th. Bob Fursey and Adie Moody were naturally present, David Harvey continued to fight back to fitness and Sarah Kenyon was first M&M lady home.
English Schools Athletics Championships
Gateshead 11-12 July 2008
Lucy Underdown went one better than her Kent and M&M team mates and secured her first English schools title in the Senior Girls Discus. A truly tremendous result - well done Lucy!
Michael Baker picked up the club's second medal at the championships when finishing second in the 400mH on Saturday.
James Alcock lept to a bronze medal in the Inter Boys Long Jump at the English Schools Championships. His leap of 6.45m, into a head wind, snatched him the bronze by just one centimeter.
Aviva Team GB Olympic Trials
Birmingham 11-13 July 2008
M&M athletes had mixed fortunes on the first day of the Team GB Olympic Trials in Birmingham. Whilst Ben Scarlett cruised comfortably into the men’s 800m final by finishing second in his heat in 1min 50.40secs, training partner Tim Alexander was 8th in the same heat in 1min 56.65secs.
Maria Crowe lined up in the 400mH heat and posted a respectable 61.83secs to finish 5th, which on this occasion was not enough to see her progress to Saturday’s final.

Barry Royden picked up his first GB Masters Vest in an international match between GB, Belgium and France. His third place in the 5000m was his best time of the season and a good result as he was competing in the M35 age group.
Orpington 10km

Nick Slade led home the M&M contingent at the Orpington 10km when finishing in 36:12.
It won't surprise anyone that Bob Fursey and Adrian Moody were amongst the finishers as they clocked 38:41 and 43:48 resepctively. Cathy Harvey also made a welcome return to racing with a 46:06 clocking.
Kent 300m & 10000m Championships
Canterbury - 18th June 2008
Helcha Penfold led all thw way to take the Senior Laides 3000m title in 10:20:?mins and Adrian Lowther also led all the way on his debut at the distance to lap all other athletes on his way to a pb time of 32:45:7mins.
Gareth Williams continued with his improving run of form to take second in the M40 race in a time of 34:46:?mins.

M&M's Ian Reid ran 27.51 to finish third at the Harvel Hash 5. Adrian Moody finished 41st in 32.06 and Colin and Elizabeth Carpenter cxompleted the M&M finishers!

Jack Tyler, gaining his first England vest, and Ben Scarlett both ran well at the St Mary's Classic meeting on Wednesday. Jack was again close to his pb ver 1500m and Ben ran under 1 minute 50 seconds for the first time over 800m.

British Universities Sports Association Athletics Championships
Bedford - 3-5 May 2008
Jack Tyler was at his marvellous best again as he rewrote the club record books for the second time in a week. Jack finished 6th in the 1500m final in a time of 3.49.78.
Brother Ben also recorded a personal best time over 5000m and Natalie Gray ran strongly to finish 5th in the 10000m final. Maria Crowe finished 3rd in Womens 400mH in 60.68sec

Katie White and Emily Coombs competed in the Tonbridge Junior X Country on Sunday 10th February. Both girls were recovering from illness and although they did not run near to their own Pbs for the course, finished a credible 4th for Katie and 9th for Emily out of 37 girls - many of whom were older.

PB's for Pat and Tom and a Vets Win for Barry were good news for the club's seniors on Sunday. They also managed to win the team prize. Sarah Kenyon also ran her fastest time for many years to finish 5th Woman.

Birmingham Games - 3rd February 2008
Tim Alexander and Andreas Safars ran in the second of three heats with only the winner sure to reach the final but the heat turned out to be the fastest. Tim came 2nd in 1m-56.19s which was the second fastest time in the heats an Andreas in 5th 1m-59.39s. In the final Tim finished 3rd in 1m-56.00s beaten by the Scottish and also the Midland Indoor Champion.

Neil Renault, M&M AC Senior Man, ran a pb of 65.24 mins to come home 2nd in the 4 Villages Half Marathon at Helsby. Neil was just three seconds behind leading GB Marathon Runner Thomas Abyu and the £500 first prize.
