Kent County Athletic Association Cross Country Championships

Detling Saturday 5th January 2008

The Winning Senior Men's Team

Report

Men
Mike Coleman produced arguably his greatest Kent Championships performance to take the title for the 5th time in a row and was followed home by Neil Renault in 2nd place. As well as these outstanding individual performances many of the team also put together excellent races. But perhaps the most pleasing outcome from the day was the fact the team held it together to win both the 6 to score and 12 score team titles, despite pressure from both Blackheath and Tonbridge.

It was also good to see both the Under 20 men and Under 17 men pick up team bronze medals.  The younger men fielded a number athletes and acquitted themselves well in tough competition.

Women
Unsurprisingly the senior women’s team could not match last year’s 1-5 whitewash but they did well to pick up silver medals. Despite having a good chance of winning the title on paper, the Under 20 women suffered from late withdrawals and with only two finishers no team scored. In the Under 17 race Kate French finished 8th and led the team to silver medals and a special mention goes to Rebecca Collins who feel in the race but got to finish 18th. The Under 15 girls narrowly missed out on bronze medals and an inexperienced team of under 13 girls did well to finish a scoring team.
