The Kent Youth League match at Canterbury provided the young Medway and Maidstone Athletes with some good competition. Victories were few and far between, but there were some good individual performances.

In the under 13’s boys Francis Lammas won both of his individual events, putting in a personal best performance in the 75m hurdles with a time of 13.4 which was one second faster than his closest rival. His distance of 4.49m in the long jump was half a metre longer than the second placed competitor.

In the under 15’s boys long jump Jordan Jivanda came second with a personal best of 5.10m, and Tom Howlett gained maximum points in the ‘B’ long jump with a distance of 4.52m.
 
Alyce Cooper notched up a PB of 20.4secs in the 150m, a Grade 1 performance, and went on to claim 2nd in the 70mH in 13.00 (all that after hitting the second hurdle).

Laura Norris had a PB in the HIgh Jump and Jane Angus was another to record a PB in 70mH, 12.3secs a Grade 2 performance.  Jane also bagged a PB in the 75m (10.8secs), as did Jessica Murphy when running 10.9secs.  As well as competing in the Long Jump Lauren Smith ran a PB of 21.9 secs in the non-scoring 150m.

Perhaps most spectacturlay of all, Katie White rewrote the record boopks by setting a new club record for 600m by clocking 1.50.1mins ranking her 9th in the UK this season.

The U13 girls relay team of Norris, Cooper, White, Angus, a seasons best of 56.3secs.

The sprint trio of Ashleigh Horton, Annie Waghorn and Nicola Keegan all achieved personal bests. Ashleigh won the 200m (27.3), Annie was second in the 300m (42.8), and Nicola won the ‘B’ 300m with a time of 43.2. Sophie Ayre gained 3rd place in the 75m hurdles with a personal best of 12.4, Sophie also won the ‘B’ long jump with another personal best of 4.58m, which was the same distance as Annie Waghorn who gained 2nd place in the ‘A’ string. Annie also gained maximum points in the ‘B’ shot.

This Saturday M&M club members will be competing for their district, in the Kent School’s championships at Ashford.
