Sutton Valence Track Open!

For the first time Maidstone now has it’s very own athletics track.  This excellent news follows the opening of the Club’s new Track at Sutton Valence School.  On Tuesday 22nd September Sir Roger Bannister was guest of honour as he officially opened the new track in front of a host of guests.  Although the electricity supply is yet to be connected to the track (thus making floodlit evening training impossible for now) the track is now ready to be used by the club and training sessions have now begun there on some Sundays, contact Chris Bowman for details.  For a series of photos from the opening ceremony you can visit: http://mandmac.org/suttonvalence.aspx See also England Athletics Website

Presentation Evening

The club’s Summer Season Presentation Evening will take place on Friday 23rd October at Maidstone Leisure Centre.  The evening commences at 7:30pm with the summer season awards and is followed by a quiz and buffet.  It is hoped as many members as possible can attend to celebrate the successes of this summer.

Winter Season

The winter season is now getting underway and fixtures for all athletes are now set.  Contact your winter team manager if you have not already done so to let them know what events you are available for.  Notably, the club is hosting the first fixture in the Kent XC League at Capstone Park.  With men and women of all ages competing it is necessary to provide a number of marshals for the day.  Your help is really needed here so if you can spare a few hours on Saturday 3rd October please contact Chris Newman at newmanchris36@hotmail.com

Run Medway

The new running programme for anyone interested in improving their health, fitness and running and taking their first steps in the sport is now up and running in Medway.  With the support of Medway Council we have launched Run Medway.  The programme sees club coaches and athletes lead road running sessions for people of all ages and ability.  Sessions start at 7pm on Monday evenings at the Black Lion  Leisure in Gillingham, full details are on the club website at: www.mandmac.org/runmedway .  If you are perhaps not a current athlete (maybe a parent of a young athlete) or somebody who just wants to run socially and get fitter this could be for you.  All members are encouraged to share news of this new programme with friends.  For more information please contact runmedway@mandmac.org

We still need more people to join the team of club athletes and coaches to help lead this group.  You do not have to be a superstar to do this, there are athletes of all abilities and anybody willing to give up and hour every few weeks to put something back into the sport is welcome.  You will receive some training to do this and a one day course is planned for 25th October.  To sign up contact: runmedway@mandmac.org

A group for complete beginners will also be starting in Maidstone, based at our new track at Sutton Valence on Sunday mornings.  As soon as details of this group are agreed we will bring you the details.

Black Lion Track

The new track at the Black Lion is now complete.  Club Chairman Paul Alcock, Senior Men’s Team Manager Adrian Lowther and local athlete Barry Royden all visited the track in August and can testify it is to be a fine facility.  The latest pictures can be viewed online at: http://mandmac.org/blackliontrack.aspx .  The Track will not be in use until 1st March as there are other building works on site yet to be complete and some final railings to be erected before health and safety clearance can be gained.  The club are currently working in partnership with Medway Council to organise the programme of use for the track, as soon as the details of when members are able to use it are agreed, we will let you know.

Club Nights – With both tracks we will be looking to designate ‘club nights’ which is when we expect the track to be made use of and all relevant training groups make use of the track.  This will not only ensure we use the two new facilities effectively but will also help to build unity across teams and age groups.

Club Records

This is your final chance to let us know of the club records you have recorded this Summer.  If you believe you have set a club record this summer please ensure you e-mail it to contact@mandmac.org (inserting a link or some evidence of the performance).  We will aim to ensure we update all records and publish in time for the end of season presentation night on 23rd October.

Coaching Co-ordinator

There is still a space on the Club Committee for a Coaching Co-ordinator.  In the past there has been a Coaching Secretary who has usually been an active senior coach within the club.  It is acknowledged that it is often hard to fulfil coaching responsibilities and to hold this post.  With this in mind the role has been redefined and we are now looking for somebody who can help to co-ordinate the activities of individual coaching groups, supply information athletes about the coaches available and to supply information to coaches about the training and development courses on offer.  They would also act as a key link between the Club Committee and the many dedicated coaches we have.

You do not need to know lots about coaching to do this role.  Trust Chairman Paul Alcock or Secretary Lin Neeves would be delighted to hear from anybody who might think they can offer some time, expertise and commitment to this role.  You would be supported by current committee members and would make a real difference to the club as it moves forward.

Club Kit

A full range of t-shirts, polo shirts, jackets, kit bags, hats, fleeces and new club vests are available to purchase.  Full details, including pictures, of all of this new kit are online.  From this page you can download an order form and also contact the Club’s Kit Manager – Karen White. We want you to wear your club colours with pride!
