m&m-logo-official-web300M&M Bulletin

24th July 2009 – Issue 13

This is the first Club Bulletin we have published for a while and there have been lots of developments recently.  Not least the Committee have been busy preparing for the two new tracks which as you will read below, are well on course for completion very soon.  Team managers, coaches and athletes have also been busy at events across the country as the summer season is now in full swing.

2009 Subscriptions are well overdue!!!

It’s not good to start with a moan, but it gets it out of the way!  There are still some members that have not yet paid their Membership subs.  If you are one of these athletes you will have been contacted by the membership secretary.  Please respond to Janis as it is not fair on other club members if athletes are not paying their membership but are still using the club.  If you need a form it is online at http://mandmac.org/membership.aspx

Your fees now include the English Athletic Association £5 affiliation fee which also gives you a £5 voucher on first use and then a subsequent 10% discount from Sweatshop. See www.sweatshop.co.uk/ea

Run Medway

A new running programme for anyone interested in improving their health, fitness and running and taking their first steps in the sport is starting in Medway shortly.  With the support of Medway Council we are launching Run Medway.  The programme will see club coaches and athletes lead road running sessions for people of all ages and ability.  Sessions are due to start very soon and full details will appear on the club website at: www.mandmac.org/runmedway .  If you are perhaps not a current athlete (maybe a parent of a young athlete) or somebody who just wants to run socially and get fitter this could be for you.  All members are encouraged to share news of this new programme with friends.

New Tracks

Sutton Valence

The club’s new track at Sutton Valence School is now nearing completion.  Many of you will have been following the progress via the photo’s online at http://mandmac.org/suttonvalence.aspx .  The Track is due to be completed and handed to the club on 8th August.  It is going to be one of the very best tracks in the south east.  It is being built to the highest standard and will be a first class training and competition facility.  As soon as the details of when members are able to use it are agreed we will let you know.  The Kent County Relay Championships are to be held at the Track on 13th September and the official opening ceremony, which is being organised by Sutton Valence School, will be held on 22nd September.  Sir Roger Bannister will be undertaking the official opening of the Track.

Black Lion Track

The new track at the Black Lion is also very close to completion, as anyone who has driven past the leisure centre recently will be able to testify.  Medway Council are expecting to take control of the track in the coming weeks and will then proceed with getting it certified for competition.  You can also view some early pictures of the track being built online at: http://mandmac.org/blackliontrack.aspx .  It is expected that the club will play a part in the opening ceremony, date tbc.  As with Sutton Valence as soon as the details of when members are able to use it are agreed, we will let you know.

Club Nights – With both tracks we will be looking to designate ‘club nights’ which is when we expect the track to be made use of and all relevant training groups make use of the track.  This will not only ensure we use the two new facilities effectively but will also help to build unity across teams and age groups.

Diary Dates

The club’s nest summer Open Meeting is planned for Deangate on 19th August.  The event details can be found online at: http://mandmac.org/clubevents.aspx

Club Records

As the season has worn on there have been a number of club records set by athletes.  Well done to you all!  It is often difficult for team managers, coaches and the committee to be aware of every single performance.  With this in mind, if you believe you have set a club record this summer please ensure you e-mail it to contact@mandmac.org (inserting a link or some evidence of the performance).  We will aim to ensure we update all records and publish online for the end of season presentation night in September.

Coaching Co-ordinator

There is currently a space on the Club Committee for a Coaching Co-ordinator.  In the past there has been a Coaching Secretary who has usually been an active senior coach within the club.  It is acknowledged that it is often hard to fulfil coaching responsibilities and to hold this post.  With this in mind the role has been redefined and we are now looking for somebody who can help to co-ordinate the activities of individual coaching groups, supply information athletes about the coaches available and to supply information to coaches about the training and development courses on offer.  They would also act as a key link between the Club Committee and the many dedicated coaches we have.

You do not need to know lots about coaching to do this role.  Trust Chairman Paul Alcock or Secretary Lin Neeves would be delighted to hear from anybody who might think they can offer some time, expertise and commitment to this role.  You would be supported by current committee members and would make a real difference to the club as it moves forward.

Club Kit

A full range of t-shirts, polo shirts, jackets, kit bags, hats, fleeces and new club vests are available to purchase.  Full details, including pictures, of all of this new kit are online.  From this page you can download an order form and also contact the Club’s Kit Manager – Karen White. We want you to wear your club colours with pride!
